Well I certainly hope that my year doesn’t continue as it’s started – with a horrible cold! I have done so many sweet recipes recently that savoury ones haven’t had much of a look in (it’s not my fault that there are so many Christmassy things that I want to bake!); but I couldn’t not share the recipe for these crispy potato latkes with smoked salmon and chive sour cream with you. They are incredibly good – the entire batch was devoured very quickly after I was done taking photos, and I think that they would make a great Christmas morning breakfast, or Christmas dinner starter. It seems strange that this is the first risotto recipe that I have shared on here as I make it a lot and it is one of my favourite meals. As a vegetarian, risotto used to be ‘the’ (as in, the only) vegetarian option on most menus. Thankfully, the majority of restaurants have become a lot more accommodating towards vegetarians and vegans and the options are much more plentiful nowadays. The years of having risotto as pretty much my only choice when eating out haven’t put me off it however and I still eat it a lot at home, if not quite as often when eating out anymore. (more…)

The weather the last couple of days has been utterly foul. Non-stop rain all day and the darkest, gloomiest skies. I have come down with a stinking cold. I don’t get ill very often, maybe about once every five years; so when I do catch a cold it really hits me hard. I have been struggling to do much at all but I have work and diy to be getting on with and Ringo to walk so I’ve spent a lot less time resting than I would like to. It has meant that I really haven’t felt like cooking but I still need tasty, nourishing food, fast! Does anyone else struggle to return to normal life after they have been away somewhere? After being at a festival at the weekend we then had to drive for four hours to pick Ringo up from my parents house, then another four hours home and it has all completely wiped me out.
