Mini Panettone With Cranberry And Ginger

mini panettone with ginger and cranberry

I spent the day yesterday moving domesticgothess.com from wordpress.com to self hosted wordpress.org. I say I moved it…but really I spent the day watching over his shoulder as my fiance did it for me and asking stupid questions…It took a while, there were a few confusing moments and the site had a bit of downtime but we (he) got there eventually. I wanted to move to self hosted so I could use plugins and customise the site a little more so I will be having a play around and making a few changes over the coming weeks. (more…)

Chestnut Chocolate Bread Wreath

chocolate chestnut bread wreath

Sweet breads are my weakness, when I bake a cake I can eat a slice and not go back for seconds, but with sweet, filled breads I just can’t stop myself from going back and slicing off another piece, and another, until I’ve eaten the whole lot…. this chocolate chestnut bread wreath is no exception….I ate nearly half the loaf in a day…Maybe it’s because the idea of bread is wholesome, so even though it’s got butter, sugar and chocolate in it, it doesn’t feel that indulgent… (more…)

Gingerdead Men – Voodoo Doll Gingerbread Men

voodoo doll gingerbread men

Halloween is the perfect time to have some fun with baking and these gingerdead men are certainly fun. Made from a delicious spiced gingerbread dough and decorated to look like voodoo dolls complete with sweetie pins for stabbing them with, they are a great addition to a Halloween party spread and much enjoyment can be had torturing them with sweetie pins before eating them. Halloween Two-Tone Rose Red Velvet Cupcakes

rose red velvet cupcakes

I like Halloween (being a gothess I suppose that’s a given!), but i prefer the more elegant side as opposed to the gory one – deep colours, vampires, witches etc. I wanted to bake something that was Halloweeny, but also attractive, so I went for red velvet cupcakes decorated with red and black two-tone roses; both roses and the colours red and black are very prevalent in gothic imagery.  I’d been itching to try this two-tone piping effect for a while now and thought that it would work perfectly with these cupcakes (my piping technique really needs some work though…). Spiced Poached Pear and Frangipane Brioche Tarts

spiced poached pear brioche tart

This recipe took a couple of go’s to get right, the first time I made them, the tarts were delicious but the frangipane sort of exploded and spread everywhere, they tasted good but looked a mess. I was determined to get them right and not be defeated by a tart; so I tried again with a few tweaks and they turned out beautifully! (more…)

Ginger Chocolate Cake

Ginger chocolate cake

My fiancé doesn’t get excited by food like I do, while I want to try everything and have the most enormous, varied list of things that I want to bake that I am unlikely to ever be able to work my way through, he is a little more set in his ways about what he likes. One of the things that he does love is chocolate cake, and he has requested that there always be a supply in the freezer in case a craving hits. (more…)

Grape Bread

Grape bread

Have you ever had a disappointing grape? You know the ones that look all plump and crunchy but when you bite into one it’s just a bit…soft? I ended up with a punnet of them the other day – tasty looking but just didn’t hit the mark. But I hate wasting food, I will go to great lengths to attempt to use up anything that would otherwise be thrown away (unless it’s actually gone mouldy, I don’t go quite that far…), so I racked my brains to try and come up with something to do with them.
