Flapjacks have to be the ultimate in simple yet satisfying treats. If you are feeling low on energy then a sweet, chewy, buttery flapjack with a cup of tea is just the thing to perk you back up again. Here I have veganised them and added a tasty mix of dried fruits, nuts and seeds (mostly because I wanted to clear some odds and ends out of the cupboard but the result is delicious!) (more…)

I know it isn’t really the right time of year for ginger cake, it is much more of an Autumn/Winter kind of thing; but we have been having a lot of dreary weather recently and I have just been in the mood for comforting bakes and warm flavours. (more…)

Toffee Apple Gingerbread Loaf

Toffee apple gingerbread loaf cake, perfect for bonfire night - Domestic Gothess I don’t think that I have ever been to a bonfire night celebration as an adult, though the holiday is tinged with nostalgia; as a child I remember being bundled up warm and heading out as a family to watch the local firework display and burning of the guy; or building a bonfire in the back garden (check for hedgehogs!) and fashioning a guy from old clothes and newspaper and then gleefully setting fire to it… There are certain foods that are always reminiscent of Guy Fawkes night as well; crisp, cheesy jacket potatoes, mulled apple juice (though I prefer the grown-up kind now!), squidgy gingerbread, toffee apples, and marshmallows toasted on the bonfire; I used to let mine catch fire so that they were burnt on the outside and liquid on the inside… (more…)
