Boozy coffee milkshakes – get your caffeine, sugar and alcohol fixes all in one with this indulgent grown-up treat! With vegan option.

Boozy coffee milkshakes - get your caffeine, sugar and alcohol fixes all in one with this indulgent grown-up treat!

Ok so I guess I should really be posting a smoothie recipe right now, not an indulgent milkshake. This goes against the usual January healthy eating thing, as well as Dry January AND Veganuary (though actually it can be converted to vegan if needed); but you know what?

I think that January could do with a little indulgence like a boozy coffee milkshake; it’s all about balance. And besides, these would be perfect for Valentine’s Day dessert, which will be here before we know it.

Photo of two glasses of coffee Kahlua milkshakes with chocolate sauce, whipped cream and paper straws on a dark background.

These milkshakes are a delectable mix of coffee ice cream for the base, with cold espresso coffee and Kahlua to provide the rest of the coffee kick; and Irish cream and a splash of milk to add creaminess.

I like the strong coffee flavour that comes from using coffee ice cream as well as espresso and Kahlua; but you can also use either vanilla or chocolate ice cream instead if you like.

The addition of a splash of milk makes this more of a drink than a super thick shake, feel free to omit it if you like a thicker milkshake. I think that a milkshake isn’t complete without at least a couple of garnishes so I like to drizzle the inside of the glass with some chocolate sauce and top the milkshake with whipped cream and a dash more chocolate.

Some crumbled Oreos on top would also be a great addition; you could even add a couple of them to the milkshake when you blend it too – now I think I might have to make another one to try that out!

Make These Boozy Coffee Milkshakes Vegan:

If you want to convert these boozy coffee milkshakes to vegan, swap the ice cream for your favourite vegan version, use Baileys Almande or Besos De Oro in place of the Irish Cream, almond/soy milk instead of regular milk (if using) and top with coconut whipped cream – yum!
